Gujarat Unleashes Ambitious Skill Development Drive for Youth

On June 19, 2025, the Gujarat government launched an unprecedented skill development program, “Skill Gujarat,” aimed at training 10 lakh youth over the next three years to enhance their employability and fuel the state’s economic growth. Unveiled by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in Ahmedabad, the initiative is designed to address the skill gap in high-demand sectors like information technology, manufacturing, renewable energy, and healthcare.

The program, backed by a Rs 1,200 crore budget, collaborates with leading industry players such as Tata Group, Reliance Industries, and Adani Enterprises to ensure training aligns with market needs. Over 500 training centers will be established across Gujarat, including 100 in rural areas, to make the program accessible to all. Courses will cover emerging fields like artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, solar technology, and advanced manufacturing, alongside soft skills like communication and leadership.

Officials stated that the initiative targets youth aged 18–35, with a special focus on women and marginalized communities. Participants will receive certifications recognized by national and international employers, boosting their job prospects. The program also includes a placement drive, with over 200 companies committing to hire trained candidates. Additionally, entrepreneurial training modules will support youth in launching startups, particularly in green technology and agriculture.

The Gujarat Skill Development Corporation (GSDC) will oversee the program, ensuring quality control and real-time monitoring through a dedicated digital portal. The portal will allow youth to register, track their progress, and connect with potential employers. “This is a game-changer for Gujarat’s youth. We’re not just creating jobs but building a skilled workforce for the future,” said GSDC Chairman Rajesh Patel during the launch.

To ensure inclusivity, the program offers stipends to economically disadvantaged participants and free training for women from rural areas. Industry experts have hailed the initiative as a bold step toward making Gujarat a global hub for skilled manpower, with projections estimating a 15% rise in youth employment by 2028.
